Artificial Graphite

Natural graphite
The crystal development is relatively complete, and the degree of graphitization of flake graphite is more than 98%, while the degree of graphitization of natural microcrystalline graphite is usually below 93%.

Artificial graphite:
The degree of crystal development depends on the raw material and heat treatment temperature. Generally speaking, the higher the heat treatment temperature, the higher the degree of graphitization. The degree of graphitization of industrial produced artificial graphite is usually less than 90%.

organization structure
Natural flake graphite: It is a single crystal with a relatively simple organizational structure, only exhibiting crystallographic defects (such as point defects, dislocations, stacking faults, etc.), and exhibiting anisotropic characteristics at the macro level. Natural microcrystalline graphite has smaller grains, disorderly arrangement between grains, and presence of pores after impurity removal, exhibiting isotropy on a macroscopic scale.

Artificial graphite: it can be regarded as a multiphase material, including graphite phase transformed by carbonaceous particles such as Petroleum coke or pitch coke, graphite phase transformed by coal tar pitch binder coated around particles, particle accumulation or pores formed by coal tar pitch binder after heat treatment.
